Hush, Hush

When local police are shut down by federal agents, a mature amateur sleuth and her K9 partner become the only hope to find a missing girl in this fast-paced, contemporary women's mystery. A missing girl is still texting. The only problem? It isn’t her. Ronnie Lake is settling into her second act as a private investigator when college student Jenae Johnson shows up at her home with one urgent question. If her roommate is missing, who’s been sending the upbeat texts from her phone number?Mandy vanished after a date, yet the messages keep coming like nothing happened. The police think Mandy will turn up. Ronnie isn’t so sure. The texts fail the private song-lyric code the girls use for emergencies, and the tone is all wrong. Someone is using Mandy’s number, and someone wants the world to believe she’s fine. Ronnie starts digging. The search collides with a death tied to Mandy’s disappearance and a powerful married congressman who abruptly resigns and vanishes from public view. And then federal agents shut down the local investigation. But Ronnie isn’t bound by their orders. With Warrior, her German shepherd, at her side, she may be the only one left who can keep looking.
